The international language of cooperation

Simultaneous and consecutive interpretation (English-Spanish-English) at a round-table conference convened by the Alberta Council for Global Cooperation (ACGC) to inform Global Affairs Canada (GAC). This department of the federal government is responsible for Canada’s international engagement. It stands at the forefront of the international policies and operations of the Government of Canada.

BRIEF

OBJECTIVE

Simultaneous English-Spanish-English interpretation in Calgary and Canmore for an award-winning lawyer, Karla Márquez, during several presentations about her human rights work supporting gender equality in Honduras.

BACKGROUND

Through a project funded by the Fund for Innovation and Transformation of the Government of Canada, Ms. Márquez provided legal advice in Honduras to people whose rights have been violated, training them on gender equality, their human rights, and informing them on how to access emergency resources when they experienced gender-based violence.

Ms. Márquez also spearheaded alliances with local governments and state institutions, such as the municipal women’s office, health centres, the national police, and the courts, to better inform and facilitate the protection of gender-based violence victims and survivors.

This photo was taken in Canmore during the Alberta Council for Global Cooperation (ACGC) Round Table with Global Affairs Canada (GAC) Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) Patricia Peña and ACGC member organization representatives.
